Miss Universe South Africa 2023 Bryoni Natalie Govender will be wearing a sari-inspired national costume at the 72nd Miss Universe pageant. A sari (saree) is an elegant and traditional dress worn by women from the Indian subcontinent (South Asia). Designed by multi-award-winning designer Casey Jeanne Walters, Bryoni's national costume is a tribute to her African-Indian heritage. The beautiful costume representing South Africa's rich culture and its diversity is decorated with traditional Zulu beads in a pattern inspired by a Ndebele print. "When Werner Wessels asked me to design the national costume for Miss South Africa for the Miss Universe pageant, I was initially a bit like, huh, what, me!?," the designer shared on social media. Belindé Schreuder has been officially announced on Thursday, October 5 to represent South Africa at Miss Earth 2023 in Vietnam later this year. The 27-year-old model and professional makeup artist hailing from Lephalale, Limpopo was named first runner-up (Miss Air) during Miss Earth South Africa 2023 last month in Johannesburg. "I am filled with gratitude, blessed beyond measure, but above all, profoundly thankful. Miss Earth holds a special place in my heart; nature is my sanctuary," she shared following the national final. No stranger to pageantry, Belindé previously held the titles World Supermodel South Africa 2017, Miss United Continents South Africa 2018, Miss Supranational South Africa 2018, and Miss Grand South Africa 2019. Zabelo Hlabisa bested nine other finalists to win Miss Earth South Africa 2023 in a ceremony held on Saturday, September 9 at Sandton Southern Sun in Johannesburg. The 29-year-old entrepreneur and international multi-award-winning model from Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal will now represent South Africa at Miss Earth 2023 in Vietnam this December. She succeeds last year's winner Ziphozethu Sithebe. Belinde Schreuder, Duduzile Mbobo, and Zama Mbatha were announced as the runners-up and were awarded the title Miss Air, Miss Water, and Miss Fire, respectively. Miss South Africa 2023 first runner-up Bryoni Natalie Govender has been confirmed to represent South Africa at the 72nd Miss Universe pageant. The 26-year-old lawyer from Kempton Park in Gauteng came second to Miss South Africa 2023 winner Natasha Joubert at the national pageant held on Sunday in Pretoria. Since Natasha has already joined Miss Universe 2020 and rules do not allow her to participate again, she is now expected to go to Miss Supranational 2024. Following last night's competition, the new Miss Universe South Africa went to social media to share: "I am so incredibly proud of myself. Thank you South Africa for all your support and love." Natasha Joubert was crowned Miss South Africa 2023 during the 65th Miss South Africa pageant held on Sunday, August 13 at the SunBet Arena, Time Square, Pretoria. The 26-year-old marketing management graduate and entrepreneur from Tshwane, Gauteng won in her second attempt for the national title. She was second runner-up at Miss South Africa 2020 and went on to compete in the 69th Miss Universe which was held in Hollywood, Florida.
