Miss Universe introduces first sustainable sashes made from recycled materials

Miss Universe Organization (MUO) has officially announced its partnership with California-based sash maker The Sash Company for their first-ever sustainable sashes. The new sashes for the forthcoming Miss Universe edition are made from 100% post-consumer recycled materials (organic and sustainable luxury fibers and threads) and with ethically produced rhinestones. "We hope our commitment to sustainability will reduce the overall amount of plastic and waste in the environment. This is one small step of many we hope to make in the future as small actions by corporations and organizations will have the greatest impact on making a greener future for all," MUO shared on its official Instagram page. The official announcement received a lot of positive feedback from the pageant fans and several contestants. Miss Universe Iceland 2022 Hrafnhildur Haraldsdóttir stunned in a red outfit while posing with her national flag as she departs Keflavík International Airport for the 71st Miss Universe pageant in the United States. "Humbled and honored to raise the Icelandic flag and represent my country," she shared on the official social media accounts of the Miss Universe Iceland pageant. The 18-year-old biology student who won Miss Universe Iceland 2022 last August in downtown Reykjavik will be in Miami for her final training and fittings before flying to New Orleans, Louisiana — the host city of the upcoming Miss Universe competition. Miss Universe Ukraine 2022 Viktoria Apanasenko finally revealed her symbolic national costume for the 71st Miss Universe pageant. The "Warrior of Light" costume symbolizes her nation's fight against the darkness, like an archangel Michael with a sword protecting Ukraine. It was completed in four months of extreme conditions, to the sound of sirens, without electricity, and by candlelight. In addition to a weapon in her hand, the costume also features a monolithic jumpsuit that covers Viktoria's body like armor, a vyshyvanka-styled white dress with puffy sleeves and skirt with over 10 meters of fabric, a beautiful headpiece, and wings inspired by the colors of the Ukrainian flag. The new Miss Universe crown "Force for Good" by Mouawad was officially unveiled on Monday, December 19 at True Icon Hall (Icon Siam) in Bangkok, Thailand. Crafted by hand with 993 stones, 110.81 carats of blue sapphire, and 48.24 carats of white diamond, the Mouawad masterpiece truly represents what Miss Universe Organization stands for. The intricate design evokes the organization's "belief in a future forged by women who push the limits of what’s possible and the incredible women from around the world who advocate for positive change." Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2022 Ashley Cariño's national costume for the forthcoming 71st Miss Universe pageant has been officially revealed. The costume created by Puerto Rican musical artist and mechanical engineer DJ King Arthur features 42 pieces of biodegradable plastic designed and 3D printed. Inspired by the Arecibo Observatory Radio Telescope, it pays homage to important Puerto Rican names in the field of pageantry (former Miss Universe winners) and sports, the national flag, and coquí, an unofficial national symbol of Puerto Rico. Miss Universe to unveil new $6 million Mouawad crown in Bangkok

A brand new Miss Universe crown "Force for Good" is scheduled to be unveiled on Monday, December 19 at True Icon Hall (Icon Siam) in Bangkok, Thailand. The $6 million masterpiece by Mouawad will be the 12th crown of the Miss Universe pageant and the second crown from the world-renowned jeweler. Don't miss watching the special unveiling event presented by JKN Global Group from 2 p.m. (Bangkok time). The national costume of Miss South Africa 2022 Ndavi Nokeri for the upcoming 71st Miss Universe pageant has been officially revealed. Hosted by former Miss South Africa and Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi, the official reveal took place on Tuesday, December 6 at The Maslow Hotel in Gauteng. Miss Cameroun 2023 first runner-up Mouketey Lynette Monalisa Jelly has now been confirmed to represent her country Cameroon at the 71st Miss Universe pageant. The 26-year-old beauty from Douala is a youth empowerment advocate and founder of the Miss Monalisa Charity Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps change the lives of disadvantaged children and young people. Jelly represented South West at the recently held Miss Cameroun 2023 where she placed second to Ndoun Issie Marie Princesse. No stranger to pageantry, she also previously held the titles Miss Commonwealth Africa Charity 2021, Miss University Africa Central 2021, and Miss Beach 2015. Maria Camila Sanabria Pereyra has been appointed as the new Miss Universe Bolivia 2022 and will represent her country at the 71st Miss Universe pageant in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA this January. The 27-year-old beauty replaced the previous titleholder Maria Fernanda Pavisic Rojas who was dethroned due to her controversial "social experiment" video mocking her fellow competitors at Miss Universe. No stranger to pageantry, the newly proclaimed Miss Universe Bolivia has in October competed in Miss Grand International 2022 which was held in Indonesia and unfortunately missed a placement. Camila holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and master's in commercial management. She represented Santa Cruz at Miss Bolivia 2022 in July where she was originally named as her country's representative at Miss Supranational 2023.
