The 72nd Miss Universe competition culminated in the magical El Salvador in the weekend and we still can't get over how spectacular the show was. From the stage, production, contestants, guest performers, and distinguished judges, to the energy of the crowded Gimnasio Nacional José Adolfo Pineda, everything was flawless. The host country delivered its promise — it was undoubtedly one of the best editions of the annual Miss Universe pageant in recent years. The 72nd Miss Universe preliminary competition took place last night at the Gimnasio Nacional José Adolfo Pineda in San Salvador, El Salvador. More than 80 contestants from around the world dazzled in their Clarisse Designs opening dresses, swimsuits by Rubin Singer, footwear by Jojo Bragais, and their choice of evening gowns. Hosted by reigning Miss Universe R'Bonney Gabriel and former Miss Universe El Salvador Vanessa Velásquez, last night's spectacular show is considered the most inclusive in the 72-year history of Miss Universe. There were two mothers (Colombia and Guatemala), two transgender women (Netherlands and Portugal), and one plus-sized (Nepal). Also, two contestants (Bahrain and Pakistan) walked on stage during the swimsuit competition wearing a burkini, a swimsuit marketed toward Muslim women. Miss USA 2023 kicked off this weekend with the arrival and check-in of the 51 contestants at this year's official venue, the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno, Nevada. The week-long event will conclude this Friday, September 29 with the coronation of the 72nd Miss USA who will go on to represent the United States of America at Miss Universe 2023 in El Salvador on November 18. As the prestigious national competition begins, it is not easy to predict which of the contestants will take home the crown as it could be anyone's game. A distinguished panel of judges will have the most difficult task of choosing the next Miss USA based on their interviews, and performances during the preliminary swimsuits and evening gown competitions.
