Macel Leilani Wilson became the first Asian American to be crowned Miss USA on Thursday night of July 12, 1962, in Miami, Florida, from a field of 40 contestants. The Hawaiian beauty, a 19-year-old receptionist, was born in Honolulu to a Portuguese mother and her father, a plumber, is of Hawaiian, Chinese, and English descent. She was also the first non-caucasian woman to win the national title. Latvia is set to return to the Miss Universe stage this January in New Orleans, Louisiana after missing the pageant for a decade and a half. The European country which is situated on the Baltic Sea between Lithuania and Estonia last joined the international pageant in 2006 after its debut in 2005 with the then 19-year-old Ieva Kokoreviča who managed to place in the Top 10. Bárbara Cabrera has been officially announced on Sunday, October 2 as Miss Universe Argentina 2022. The 26-year-old textile entrepreneur and model from Buenos Aires will now prepare to represent Argentina at the 71st Miss Universe pageant in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA this January. No stranger to pageantry, Bárbara was named Miss Eco Argentina 2020 and went on to compete in Miss Eco International 2021 in Egypt where she placed in the Top 20 and bagged the Best in Evening Gown award.
