Russia's Margarita Golubeva unveils her national costume for Miss Universe 2023

Miss Universe Russia 2023 Margarita Golubeva officially unveiled her national costume for Miss Universe 2023 in a press conference held on Tuesday, October 21 at Tass News Agency in Moscow. Her national costume was inspired by the Tsarevna Swan (The Swan Princess), a 1900 oil painting by the Russian artist Mikhail Vrubel based on the opera The Tale of Tsar Sultan by Rimsky-Korsakov. The beautiful costume that Margarita will showcase in the upcoming Miss Universe competition was brought to life by the St. Petersburg-based talented fashion designer Malyarova Olga. As for her final gown, she shared: "We decided to keep the dress for the final outfit a secret to preserve the intrigue until the final stage of the competition." Margarita Golubeva was crowned Miss Russia 2023 in a glittering national competition held on Sunday, October 8 in Moscow. The 22-year-old model and student from St. Petersburg received her crown from last year's titleholder  Anna Linnikova . She is now expected to represent Russia at both Miss Universe and Miss World pageants. Elizaveta Dudina from Togliatti and Lyubov Khokholova from the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) were the first and second runners-up, respectively. The new Miss Russia is currently studying at the Russian Customs Academy (Faculty of Customs Affairs) and Moscow State Institute of Culture (Faculty of Musical Arts). She is a former contestant on "The Voice" and is passionate about singing, dancing, and sports. No stranger to pageantry, she previously won the title Miss Student of Russia 2021 and also participated in Miss Europe 2023 where finished as first runner-up. The 28-year-old marketing and psychology graduate hailing from Kursk started her successful modeling career at the age of 18. She has worked for famous brands and designers across Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and the USA. Russia's Angelina Gorbunova wins Miss Supermodel Worldwide 2023

Angelina Gorbunova, representing Russia, was crowned Miss Supermodel Worldwide 2023 on Saturday, April 15 at the City Park Resort in Ghevra, New Delhi, India. The 20-year-old model and talented singer bested 19 other competitors to win the title. She succeeded last year's winner, Alexandra Mae Rosales of the Philippines. Daria Shapovalova of Belarus was announced as the first runner-up while Precious Chimfwembe Mwamba Ng'oma of Zambia finished as the second runner-up. Rounded out the Top 5 finalists were third runner-up Natrawee Chiarasathid of Thailand and fourth runner-up Shyrla Santos Nuñez of the Philippines. Daria Lukonkina has been crowned Beauty of Russia (Krasa Rossii / Краса России) 2022 on Wednesday, October 26 at the Zimny Teatr (Winter Theater) in Sochi. The 19-year-old model and student from Nizhny Novgorod will represent Russia at Miss Earth 2023 in Vietnam. She succeeded last year's winner Ekaterina Velmakina who will go to the Philippines for Miss Earth 2022 this November. Anna Linnikova bested 24 other finalists to be crowned Miss Russia 2022 in a virtual ceremony held on Monday, July 25 in Moscow. The 22-year-old public relations student and professional model hails from the southwestern Russian city of Orenburg. She succeeds Alina Sanko and is expected to represent her country at the 71st Miss Universe (Miss Universe 2022) pageant, possibly later this year. Anna Budaeva from Chuvashia and Daria Nemaeva from Khabarovsk Region were the first and second runners-up, respectively. Miss Russia is one of the most well-known and prestigious national beauty pageants, which is backed by Russia’s Culture Ministry. The winner receives a white gold tiara, a cash prize as well as a chance to represent Russia at international competitions. Russia banned from participating in the Miss Supranational pageant

Gerhard Partzutka Von Lipinski, president of the Miss Supranational pageant, has released an official statement that Russia has been banned from participating in the Poland-based international pageant. The Miss Supranational Organization made the decision to join the countries, sports federations, and cultural events around the world that imposed sanctions on Russia due to its ongoing invasion of Ukraine. "We will not accept a contestant from Russia as we cannot condone the actions of the Kremlin," the organization said in a statement posted on social media. Ukraine has been a very special part of the Supra family since Oksana Moria won its inaugural competition in 2009 in Płock, Poland. Following months of tensions, Russia has finally attacked Ukraine on Thursday morning with air and ground invasions rocking several major cities in the country. In a chilling message prior to the attack, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a televised address, "To anyone who would consider interfering from the outside - if you do, you will face consequences greater than any of you have faced in history." Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already cut diplomatic ties with Moscow, declared martial law, and tweeted, "Russia has embarked on a path of evil, but Ukraine is defending itself and won’t give up its freedom."
