Mrs Sri Lanka World 2020 Pushpika De Silva wrongfully stripped of her crown

Pushpika De Silva was stripped of her crown while on the stage after winning the Mrs Sri Lanka World 2020 pageant last Sunday, April 4 in Colombo.

Due to false claims that she was a divorcee, the 2019 winner and the reigning Mrs World, Caroline Jurie, forcibly remove her crown and gave it to the first runner-up.

Caroline took to the stage and said: "There's a rule that you'll have to be married, and not divorced. So, I'm taking my first step saying that the crown goes to the first runner-up."

Pushpika left the stage in tears and was reportedly injured from the embarrassing incident. She was later reinstated after the organizers confirmed that she is separated but still married.

In a post on social media, she explained she was separated from her husband due to personal reasons. She also wrote, "True queens do not snatch other women's crowns."

Mrs World also released a statement on the issue and said, "We are deeply disturbed and sincerely regret the behavior of our current titleholder."

"We will review the aforementioned incident and we'll be taking steps, as deemed appropriate, based on the outcome of our assessment."
