SPOTLIGHT: Miss Nicaragua 2022 Norma Huembes - 'I want to be the face that brings joy and excitement to Nicaraguans'


Nicaragua will be represented at the 71st Miss Universe edition (Miss Universe 2022) by Norma Huembes, a 24-year-old public accountant from San Marcos, Carazo.

Set between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, the Central American country is known for its dramatic terrain of lakes, volcanoes and beaches.

Since its Miss Universe debut in 1955, only four women successfully placed in the competition courtesy of Beatriz Obregón in 1977 (Top 12), Xiomara Blandino in 2007 (Top 10), Nastassja Bolívar in 2013 (Top 16), and Ana Marcelo in 2020 (Top 21).

This year's Miss Nicaragua / Miss Universe Nicaragua, who won her national title on August 6, is preparing to win her country's first Miss Universe later this year.

In her own words, "I want to be the face that brings joy and excitement to Nicaraguans."

After winning her national pageant, Norma took to social media and wrote in Spanish: "Thank you is the key word for this whole experience that I am living at this moment. I thank God for leading me down this path, my family and friends for accompanying me since before I started this dream, my beloved town of San Marcos, and all those who have supported me."

The 5-foot-8-inch stunner is wearing a beautiful creation by Nicaraguan fashion designer Jared Bermúdez in her latest photos released by Miss Nicaragua.



The Miss Universe Organization has yet to announce the official date and host country for this year's Miss Universe edition.

Cuba's Juan Carlos Ariosa wins 8th Mister Global competition

Mister Global Cuba Juan Carlos Ariosa beat 38 other competitors to win Mister Global 2022 held on Saturday, February 11 at the Royal Park Rajapruek in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The 28-year-old actor, model, and dental surgeon originally from Matanzas, Cuba succeeded Danh Chieu Linh of Vietnam for the coveted international title. He also bagged the Mister Photogenic award. Oscar Guerrero of Colombia and William Gama of Brazil were named the first and second runners-up, respectively, while Kim Hee Won of Korea and Setthapan Thongsuk of Thailand rounded out the Top 5 finalists. Miss Maine USA 2025 is Shelby Howell from Bangor

Shelby Howell, representing Bangor, was crowned Miss Maine USA 2025 during the state final held on Sunday, May 11 in Portland. The 24-year-old real estate agent succeeds last year's winner Anne Baldridge and will now proceed to represent Maine at Miss USA 2025. Mara Carpenter of Cumberland County was named first runner-up while Jordon Hudson of Hancock, Reykha Lindor of Old Town, and Hannah Trottier-Braun of Lewiston were the second, third, and fourth runners-up, respectively. Polish-American Emily Reng to represent Poland at Miss Universe 2025

Polish-American Emily Reng was officially announced by the Miss Polonia organization as Miss Universe Poland 2025 on Wednesday, October 22. The 20-year-old will now prepare to represent Poland at the Miss Universe 2025 pageant in Thailand this coming November. Emily is a graduate of John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights, Illinois and is currently a student at the University of South Carolina. The new Miss Universe Poland is no stranger to pageantry. Jennifer Barreto crowned Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2026

Jennifer Barreto of San Sebastián triumphed over 30 other contestants to win Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2026 on Thursday, June 25 in Caguas. The 27-year-old psychologist will represent Puerto Rico at the Miss Universe 2026 pageant to be held in the Caribbean island this November. Génesis Dávila of Arroyo was named first runner-up while Vivianie Díaz-Arroyo of Aguas Buenas, Nicole Marie Colón of Aibonito, and Chelsey García of Añasco were the second, third, and fourth runners-up, respectively. Miss Universe Netherlands 2026 is Melissa Bottema from Groningen

Melissa Bottema was proclaimed the winner of Miss Netherlands 2026 (Miss Universe Netherlands) on Saturday, June 27 at Studio 21 in Hilversum. The 25-year-old social worker, gymnastics coach and model from Groningen was crowned by her predecessor Nathalie Mogbelzada who made the Top 30 at Miss Universe 2025 last November in Bangkok, Thailand.
