SPOTLIGHT: Miss Nicaragua 2022 Norma Huembes - 'I want to be the face that brings joy and excitement to Nicaraguans'


Nicaragua will be represented at the 71st Miss Universe edition (Miss Universe 2022) by Norma Huembes, a 24-year-old public accountant from San Marcos, Carazo.

Set between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, the Central American country is known for its dramatic terrain of lakes, volcanoes and beaches.

Since its Miss Universe debut in 1955, only four women successfully placed in the competition courtesy of Beatriz Obregón in 1977 (Top 12), Xiomara Blandino in 2007 (Top 10), Nastassja Bolívar in 2013 (Top 16), and Ana Marcelo in 2020 (Top 21).

This year's Miss Nicaragua / Miss Universe Nicaragua, who won her national title on August 6, is preparing to win her country's first Miss Universe later this year.

In her own words, "I want to be the face that brings joy and excitement to Nicaraguans."

After winning her national pageant, Norma took to social media and wrote in Spanish: "Thank you is the key word for this whole experience that I am living at this moment. I thank God for leading me down this path, my family and friends for accompanying me since before I started this dream, my beloved town of San Marcos, and all those who have supported me."

The 5-foot-8-inch stunner is wearing a beautiful creation by Nicaraguan fashion designer Jared Bermúdez in her latest photos released by Miss Nicaragua.



The Miss Universe Organization has yet to announce the official date and host country for this year's Miss Universe edition.

Singer-songwriter Sigga Ózk crowned Miss Iceland 2026

Sigríður Ósk Hrafnkelsdóttir, also known as Sigga Ózk, was crowned Ungfrú Ísland 2026 (Miss Iceland 2026) on Wednesday, April 22 at at Gamla Bíó in Reykjavík. The singer-songwriter from Garðabær will now prepare to represent Iceland at the Miss Universe 2026 pageant to be held in Puerto Rico this November. Aníta Mist Davíðsdóttir was named first runner-up while Elínborg Hrannarsdóttir, Nadía Líf Pálsdóttir, Soffía Ellín Stella Gísladóttir were the second, third and fourth runners-up, respectively. Miss Universe 2022 R'Bonney Gabriel visits El Salvador

Fresh from her Paris Fashion Week debut, the reigning Miss Universe R'Bonney Gabriel of the USA touched down in El Salvador for the first time today. According to the beauty queen, she will be in the Central American country for a week to start filming for the upcoming Miss Universe 2023 competition. "It is my first time here, I'm very excited, I've heard amazing things about El Salvador. I'm looking for some of the best pupusas here in the country and I'm looking forward to just exploring the beauty that this country has to offer," she shared on social media. The 72nd Miss Universe is set to take place in El Salvador on November 18. R'Bonney will crown her successor at the end of the event, just 10 months after she won Miss Universe 2022 in New Orleans. Former Miss Earth USA Bea Millan-Windorski joins Miss Universe Philippines 2026

Filipino-American Bea Millan-Windorski has recently been appointed as the official representative for the province of La Union at Miss Universe Philippines 2026. At just 24 years old, she is well-acquainted with the world of pageantry, having participated in Miss Earth USA 2024 in Orlando, Florida, where she clinched the title while representing Wisconsin. This achievement made her the first Filipino-American to secure the national title. Patthama Jitsawat, representing the Thai province of Chonburi, was crowned Miss Grand Thailand 2026 on Saturday, March 28 at MGI Hall in Bangkok. The 32-year-old beauty edged out 76 other contestants to win the national competition. She succeeds last year's winner Sarunrat Puagpipat of Phuket. Sadhvi Sail bested 29 other contestants to win the Femina Miss India 2026 pageant last Saturday, April 18 at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology in Bhubaneswar.
