Latvia's Kate Alexeeva withdraws from 71st Miss Universe


Miss Universe Latvia 2022 Kate Alexeeva will unfortunately not be able to compete at the 71st Miss Universe pageant in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA on January 14.

The 28-year-old Latvian model, businesswoman, and influencer took to social media to share she tested positive for COVID-19 shortly before the New Year and is currently still recovering from complications.

"I am forced to revoke my participation in Miss Universe this year. I still can’t believe I’m saying this. This decision is made because my health and the health of other contestants and their families is a priority," she said.

Miss Universe Latvia national director Inga Raduga commented: "I know how upset you are, but it's life. I hope so much that you will shine and all will see your beauty on Miss Universe 2023."

Kate was named Miss Universe Latvia last October and was supposed to be the first Latvian representative at the Miss Universe competition since 2006.

Miss Southern Plains, Diane Westhoven was crowned Miss Alabama USA 2024 during the state final on Saturday, June 1 at Auburn University's Jay and Susie Gogue Performing Arts Center. The 21-year-old student from Birmingham will now prepare to represent Alabama at Miss USA 2024 this summer in Hollywood, California. Amadea Zupan was crowned Miss Slovenia 2024 (Miss World Slovenia) in a national competition held on Friday, January 10 in Lendava. The 26-year-old medical student at the University of Ljubljana beat 12 other contestants to win the title. She received the crown from her predecessor Alida Tomanič. Katja Zver was named first runner-up while Neja Prosenjak finished as second runner-up and also bagged the Miss Personality award. Angélique Angarni-Filopon from Martinique beat 29 other contestants to win Miss France 2025 on Saturday, December 14 at the Futuroscope Arena in Vienne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The 34-year-old flight attendant became the oldest winner of the prestigious national pageant. She also made history as the first woman from Martinique to become Miss France. The 23-year-old qualified beach lifeguard from Newquay, Cornwall bested 39 other contestants to win the national title. China officially crowned two national queens for Miss Universe in one year. Two separate national events were held this year. Xinying Zhu from Anhui province was recently crowned Miss Universe China following an intense one-week competition in Zhangjiajie. The 18-year-old vocational student majoring to become a flight attendant at Suzhou Aviation Vocational College is expected to represent China at Miss Universe 2026.
