Latvia's Kate Alexeeva withdraws from 71st Miss Universe


Miss Universe Latvia 2022 Kate Alexeeva will unfortunately not be able to compete at the 71st Miss Universe pageant in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA on January 14.

The 28-year-old Latvian model, businesswoman, and influencer took to social media to share she tested positive for COVID-19 shortly before the New Year and is currently still recovering from complications.

"I am forced to revoke my participation in Miss Universe this year. I still can’t believe I’m saying this. This decision is made because my health and the health of other contestants and their families is a priority," she said.

Miss Universe Latvia national director Inga Raduga commented: "I know how upset you are, but it's life. I hope so much that you will shine and all will see your beauty on Miss Universe 2023."

Kate was named Miss Universe Latvia last October and was supposed to be the first Latvian representative at the Miss Universe competition since 2006.

Señorita Colombia 2021 is Valentina Espinosa of Bolívar

Valentina Espinosa, the representative of the Bolívar department, was chosen as the new Señorita Colombia 2021 (Miss Colombia 2021) in a ceremony full of color, music, and a lot of Colombian talent on Sunday, November 14 at the Auditorio Getsemaní del Centro de Convenciones Julio Cesar Turbay Ayala in Cartagena. The 23-year-old social communication and journalism professional triumphed over 24 other beauties to win her national title. Sigríður Ósk Hrafnkelsdóttir, also known as Sigga Ózk, was crowned Ungfrú Ísland 2026 (Miss Iceland 2026) on Wednesday, April 22 at at Gamla Bíó in Reykjavík. Susana Medina from Las Palmas beat 16 other contestants to win Miss Universe Spain 2026 on Saturday, July 18 in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife. The 27-year-old model and actress will represent Spain at the Miss Universe 2026 pageant in Puerto Rico this November. Luren Márquez was crowned Miss Peru 2026 (Miss Universe Peru) in a special ceremony held on Wednesday, April 15 at the Teatro Municipal del Callao.
