OPINION: Miss Universe 2023 best of the final night

The 72nd Miss Universe competition culminated in the magical El Salvador in the weekend and we still can't get over how spectacular the show was.

From the stage, production, contestants, guest performers, and distinguished judges, to the energy of the crowded Gimnasio Nacional José Adolfo Pineda, everything was flawless.

The host country delivered its promise — it was undoubtedly one of the best editions of the annual Miss Universe pageant in recent years.

Plus-sized Sara Milliken crowned Miss Alabama for National American Miss 2024

Plus-sized beauty Sara Milliken was crowned the National American Miss Alabama 2024 during the state final held on May 27 at the Renaissance Marriot in Montgomery. The 23-year-old model and mental health advocate from Atmore, Alabama is now expected to represent her home state at the National American Miss 2024 competition later this year. "This is a dream that has been 8 years in the making for me," said the new National American Miss Alabama who first joined the state pageant when she was 15 years old. After enduring bullying upon her return at the age of 16, she decided to take a break from joining for 7 years. However, this year, she mustered up the courage to give the crown another shot. Miss Universe 2024: Meet the contestants

Miss Universe 2024, the 73rd Miss Universe pageant will be held on November 16 at the the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico. The country known for its rich culture, ancient ruins, dazzling beaches, and incredible cuisine has been chosen to host the competition for the fifth time after 1978, 1989, 1993, and 2007. Eighty (80) national winners have been crowned up to this point and are all set to compete in this year's highly anticipated beauty pageant. Reigning Miss Universe Sheynnis Palacios, Nicaragua's first winner, will crown her successor at the end of the event whose exact date and venue have yet to be announced. Miss Universe Australia 2024 is Zoe Creed from Brisbane

Creed was crowned Miss Universe Australia 2024 in a national competition held on Thursday, September 5 at the grand ballroom of the Crown Perth in Burswood. The 23-year-old model from Brisbane edged out 27 other competitors to win the title. She is the first national winner from Queensland since Jesinta Campbell in 2010. Laetitia Greco and Renèe Mourad were named the first and second runners-up, respectively, while Bronte Rose Dagg and Jennifer Crown were the rest of the Top 5 finalists. The Top 10 were Sarah Said-Smith, Jess Davis, Alana Deutsher-Moore, Ally Draper, and Tahlia Jones. Miss Denmark 2024 is Emma Heyst from Sæby

Emma Heyst was crowned Miss Denmark 2024 in a glittering national competition on Sunday, September 1 at the Cirkusbygningen in Copenhagen. The 21-year-old animal welfare advocate and salesperson from Sæby, Jutland succeeds last year's winner Nikoline Uhrenholt Hansen. Sophie Wagner and Sofie Ørn Andersen were named the first and second runners-up, respectively. Sofie Langballe Jensen and Simran Kholi rounded out the Top 5 finalists. The new Miss Denmark is expected to represent her country in a major international pageant in 2025. Emma is currently taking a sabbatical and working as a full-time salesperson in Ilva. In her spare time, she enjoys quality moments with her family and friends. Her interests include traveling, social media, planning and decorating events and holidays, experimenting with Pescetarian cooking, paddle boarding, winter swimming, and animal welfare. As Miss Denmark, she wants to use her platform to achieve her goals in life and to be the voice for the animals.

Mrs. American 2024 is Heidi Stephens from Washington

Washington's Heidi Stephens was crowned Mrs. American 2024 on Tuesday, August 27 at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino. The 37-year-old certified emergency nurse and a mother of two bested over 40 other contestants from across the country to win the national title. Christina Joymon of Colorado was named first runner-up while Stacie Proctor of Utah finished as the second runner-up. Georgia's Caroline Kiernan, North Carolina's Madeline Stewart, and Tennessee's Corrin Stellakis Hein rounded out the Top 6 finalists. "As I embark on this incredible journey, I first want to pause and thank those who helped me to achieve this dream of becoming Mrs. American 2024," Heide wrote online. Miss Universe Cayman Islands 2024 is Raegan Rutty

Raegan Rutty was crowned Miss Univere Cayman Island 2024 on Saturday, August 31 at The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa. The 22-year-old first Caymanian Olympic gymnast from East End will represent the Cayman Islands at the Miss Universe 2024 pageant in Mexico this November. Arin Broderick and Brianna Wilson were named the first and second runners-up, respectively. A total of six contestants were selected to take part in this year's Miss Universe Cayman Islands. Last year's winner, Ileann Powery, crowned her successor at the end of the event. The new Miss Universe Cayman Islands started her own podcast "The Raegan Way" to share life lessons and inspiring stories. Miss Universe Denmark 2024 is Victoria Kjær Theilvig

Victoria Kjær Theilvig has been officially announced by the Miss Denmark Organization as Miss Universe Denmark 2024. The 20-year-old passionate dancer living in Copenhagen was part of the jury at the Miss Denmark 2024 final on Sunday at Cirkusbygningen. She will represent Denmark at the Miss Universe 2024 pageant in Mexico this November. Her successor was last year's Miss Denmark (Miss Universe Denmark 2023), Nikoline Uhrenholt Hansen, who competed in Miss Universe 2023 in El Salvador. No stranger to pageantry, the new Miss Universe Denmark was second runner-up at Miss Denmark 2021. She was then appointed as Miss Grand Denmark and went to Miss Grand International 2022 in Indonesia where she made the Top 20. Miss Universe Uruguay 2024 is Yanina Lucas

Yanina Lucas was crowned Miss Universe Uruguay 2024 on Saturday, August 31 at Estadio Cerrado 8 De Junio in the city of  Paysandú. The 28-year-old computer science graduate from Lavalleja will represent Uruguay at Miss Universe 2024 in Mexico this November. Lucía Piñeyro Lima of Río Negro and Macarena Gómez of Artigas were announced as the first and second runners-up, respectively. "A thousand thanks to all the people who have accompanied me on this beautiful path, I will give all of me to leave the flag of my country high," said the new Miss Universe Uruguay. Uruguay last joined Miss Universe in 2022 with Carla Romero. The country has yet to win the pageant since its debut in 1952. Its highest achievement was fourth runner-up in 1985 with Andrea Beatríz López Silva. Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 is Chidimma Adetshina

Miss Taraba, Chidimma Adetshina, was crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 in a national competition held on Saturday, August 31 at Eko Hotels & Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos. The 23-year-old beauty from Gauteng, South Africa, bested 24 other contestants to win the national title. She will represent Nigeria at Miss Universe 2024 in Mexico this November. Paula Ezendu of Anambra State was the first runner-up and received the Miss Supranational Nigeria 2024 title. She will head to Poland to participate in Miss Supranational 2025 next summer. The second runner-up, Peace Ayegbidun of Ondo, was named Miss Lush 2024 while the representatives of Rivers, Nyekachi Douglas, and Edo, Edeifo Aikhuele rounded out the Top 5 finalists.
