Binibining Pilipinas 2023, the 59th edition of the Binibining Pilipinas (Miss Philippines) pageant has begun and the Top 40 have been officially revealed. BPCI (Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Incorporated) launched its search last month for the next set of Filipinas who will represent the Philippines at different international pageants. This year's final screening and selection of contestants took place on Monday, February 6 at the New Frontier Theater in Araneta City. The date for the grand coronation night to be held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum has not yet been announced. Nicole Borromeo, Gabrielle Basiano, Chelsea Fernandez, and Roberta Tamondong will crown their successors at the end of the event. Señorita Atlántico and Señorita Colombia 2022, Sofía Osío Luna, has been officially announced as Miss International Colombia 2023. The 22-year-old beauty from Barranquilla will represent her country at Miss International 2023 in Japan later this year. She became the first Señorita Colombia winner to compete in Miss International since the 1960s. Colombia has won Miss International three times with María Stella Márquez Zawadsky (1960), Paulina Margarita Gálvez Pineda (1999, and Jeymmy Paola Vargas Gómez (2004). Last year's representative Natalia López Cardona placed third runner-up among 66 contestants at the 60th Miss International edition held at Tokyo Dome City Hall. The Top 11 official finalists vying for Miss Czech Republic 2023 have been officially announced on Thursday, January 26 at Aureole restaurant in Prague. Along with the special presentation of the 11 competitors, a brand new crown designed by jeweler Olga Kopalova was also unveiled. The finalists and a 40-member team were next taken to the DoubleTree by Hilton Resort & Spa Marjan Island in the United Arab Emirates where they will train and prepare for the grand coronation. Miss Czech Republic 2023 final show will be held on May 13 at the Forum Karlín in Prague where five national titles are at stake. Germany's Jasmin Selberg was crowned Miss International 2022 from a field of 66 contestants in a glittering competition held on Tuesday, December 13 at the Tokyo Dome City Hall in Tokyo, Japan. The 23-year-old university student in history and philosophy received the new crown by Long Beach Pearl from Sireethorn Leearamwat, the longest-reigning Miss International from Thailand. As part of Miss International tradition, this year's contestants were given the opportunity to experience the Japanese tea ceremony, a cultural activity involving the ceremonial preparation and presentation of tea. Selected contestants for this traditional activity were taken to the Enshu Sado School in Tokyo, a school of tea in Japan that was founded over 400 years ago during the early Edo period. Their Miss International 2022 journey will not be complete without the tea ceremony experience with no other than the grand tea master himself, Soujitsu Kobori.
