María Victoria Bayo Martínez was crowned Miss Mundo Dominicana 2023 (Miss World Dominican Republic 2023) on Saturday, April 15 at Gran Teatro del Cibao in Santiago de los Caballeros. The 23-year-old model and athlete from Santiago holds a degree in business administration and international business from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra. "I want to thank God, my family, and especially the Miss Mundo Dominicana organization for putting all their trust in me," she wrote in a statement on social media. "Since my childhood, I have represented Cibao in sports and academic events at the national level and with great pride. Now the commitment gets bigger and it is to represent globally the values, riches, beauty, culture, and joy of our people," she added. Miss Duarte, Emmy Peña, was crowned Miss Mundo Dominicana 2021 (Miss World Dominican Republic) in a glistening national pageant held at the Barceló Grand Resort in Punta Cana on Saturday, September 4. The 24-year-old professional model from Duarte province bested 24 other beauties to win the competition. She succeeds Alba Marie Blair and will represent the Dominican Republic at the 70th Miss World pageant in San Juan, Puerto Rico this December. As her Beauty with a Purpose project, Emmy is celebrating the diversity of people, especially those with Down Syndrome.
