Sponsored by Ursula Pule, creative director of Nungu Diamonds, the beautiful masterpiece was inspired by the "Tree of Life" known as the baobab trees. Present during the unveiling event were Miss South Africa 2023 finalists and newly arrived reigning Miss Universe R'Bonney Gabriel who flew all the way from Bangkok. Gugulethu Mayisela was crowned Miss Grand South Africa 2023 in a national competition held on Saturday, July 22 at the Atterbury Theatre in Pretoria. The 19-year-old model from Johannesburg bested 23 other competitors to win the title. She succeeds last year's winner LuJuan Mzyk and will now prepare to represent South Africa at Miss Grand International 2023 in Vietnam this October. "What an honour. I am so proud to say that I am the first black woman to ever represent South Africa at Miss Grand International," she shared online. The Top 30 contestants vying to become Miss South Africa 2023 have been officially revealed on Wednesday, May 24 exclusively on the Miss SA App. From 30, only the Top 12, to be announced this June, will have the chance to move on to the finals whose date and venue have yet to be announced. Fan voting on the pageant's official app is now open and will close on Sunday, May 28 at 1 p.m. local time (SAST) so don't miss voting for your favorites to enter the next round of the competition. The 23-year-old entrepreneur and model hails from Pietermaritzburg and is pursuing a degree in dietetics and human nutrition from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
