Tatiana Calmell bested over 30 other contestants to win Miss Peru 2024 (Miss Universe Peru) on Sunday, June 9 at the Plaza Grau in Callao. The 29-year-old actress, representing the city of Talara, will now prepare to represent her country at the 73rd Miss Universe (Miss Universe 2024) in Mexico this November. She succeeds last year's winner and Miss Universe 2023 Top 10 finalist, Camila Escribens. The representative of Ica Región, Sofía Cajo, was crowned Miss International Peru 2024 and will head to Tokyo, Japan for Miss International 2024. Luren Marquez of Peru USA was named first runner-up while Vanessa Medina of Loreto finished as the second runner-up. The much-awaited Miss Peru 2024 (Miss Universe Peru) grand final, the 10th edition, will be held tonight at the Plaza Grau in Callao. Thirty-five contestants from across the country will compete for the national title and the opportunity to represent Peru at Miss Universe 2024 in Mexico. The final show will be hosted by former Mis Peru Laura Spoya with Miami-based Puerto Rican TV presenter Carlos Adyan. Fashion model Camila Escribens, last year's winner and Miss Universe 2023 Top 10 finalist, will crown her successor at the end of the event. Peru has won Miss Universe only once since its debut at the pageant in 1952. It has been 67 years since Gladys Zender became Miss Universe 1957 in Long Beach, California. The 24-year-old fashion model and former Miss Grand Peru clinched the title in her third attempt at the national pageant and will now represent her country at Miss Universe 2023 in El Salvador later this year. Former Miss Grand Peru, Camila Escribens, decided to give pageantry another try by joining Miss Peru 2023 national competition. The 24-year-old Lima-born fashion model is no stranger to pageantry. After bagging the title of Miss Grand Peru 2019, she went on to participate in the 7th Miss Grand International pageant in Caracas, Venezuela, and finished in the Top 10 among 60 competitors. She was later on nominated by the Miss Peru Organization as Miss Supranational Peru 2020 and was supposed to take part in the 12th Miss Supranational edition in Poland but withdrew due to health reasons. At present, the national organization holds the licenses for Miss Universe, Miss International, Miss Grand International, and Miss Supranational pageants. Alessia Rovegno was crowned Miss Peru 2022 (Miss Universe Peru) in a glittering competition that was held on Tuesday, June 14 in Lima. The 24-year-old model, singer and influencer, who also received the Miss Photogenic award, is the daughter of actress Bárbara Cayo and the current partner of athlete Hugo García. Tatiana Calmell and Tatiana Calmell were named Miss Peru International 2022 and Miss Peru Latina Universal 2022, respectively. The new Miss Universe Peru succeeds last year's titleholder Yely Rivera and will represent her country at the Miss Universe 2022 pageant later this year.
