70th Miss Universe: Who stood out from the preliminary competition?


The glittering 70th Miss Universe preliminary competition and national costume show took place last night at the Universe Dome in Eilat, Israel.

Eighty of the world's most beautiful and empowered women paraded in their swimsuits and evening gowns in front of an all-female panel of the selection committee.

Following the preliminary swimsuit and evening gown competition, the national costume show took place where the contestants showcased their colorful costumes that represent the wonderful culture and tradition of their countries.

Overall standouts who gave the strongest presentations were from Argentina, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, France, Guatemala, India, Italy, Malta, Nepal, Nigeria, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain, USA, Venezuela, and Vietnam.

The contestants who also performed well on stage were from Australia, Cambodia, Canada, Cayman Islands, China, Croatia, Curacao, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Greece, Haiti, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Mauritius, Mexico, Namibia, South Africa, and The Bahamas.

Reigning Miss Universe Andrea Meza hosted the preliminary swimsuit and evening competition with American TV personality Carson Kressley, and the national costume show with American producer Nick Teplitz.

At the end of the preliminary competition, Chantel O'Brian of The Bahamas was awarded the Spirit of Carnival Award while Antonia Figueroa of Chile received the Social Impact Award.

Scores from the crucial preliminary competition will help determine the semi-finalists on the 70th Miss Universe final show on Sunday, December 12.

Miss Universe Belarus 2024 is Karyna Kisialiova

Belarus is set to debut at the Miss Universe pageant this year with newly crowned Miss Universe Belarus 2024 Karyna Kisialiova. The 27-year-old pageant veteran bested six other finalists to win the national competition on Saturday, September 28 in Minsk. No stranger to pageantry, Karyna has previously participated in various international pageants including Miss Intercontinental, Miss Grand International, Miss Earth, and Miss Eco International. Miss Universe Switzerland 2024 is Laura Bircher from Stans

Laura Bircher was crowned Miss Universe Switzerland 2024 in a glittering national competition held on Saturday, September 28 at the Kursaal Arena in Bern. The 23-year-old mental health advocate from Stans succeeds last year's winner Lorena Santen and will now prepare to represent Switzerland at Miss Universe 2024 in Mexico this November. Barbara Suter and Nadiya Karplyuk were named the first and second runners-up, respectively. Last night's event was hosted by Mister Colombia International 2012 Rey Rodríguez with Swiss media personality Virgil Jamie. 81-year-old model Choi Soon-hwa joins Miss Universe Korea 2024

Choi Soon-hwa recently created a buzz in the pageant community when she appeared as the oldest contestant vying for Miss Universe Korea 2024. The 81-year-old senior model who walked her first runway in her 70s made history as she competes alongside more than 30 others in the upcoming national competition. If she wins this year's Miss Universe Korea, she will be the oldest Korean representative and contestant in the 73-year history of the Miss Universe pageant. The Miss Universe Korea 2024 final will be held on September 30 and the winner will head to Mexico for Miss Universe 2024 this November. Miss Universe Hungary 2024 is Nora Kenez

Nora Kenez edged out 11 other contestants to win Miss Universe Hungary 2024 in a national competition held on Saturday, September 28 at the Budapest Operetta Theater. The 28-year-old pharmacist and freelance model from Szombathely will represent Hungary at the Miss Universe 2024 pageant in Mexico this November. Szimonetta Fekszi was named first runner-up while Molnár Mira and Kis Laura Dóra were the second and third runners-up, respectively. Petróczy Panna bagged the Audience award. Miss Universe Israel 2024 is Ofir Natalie Korsia

Ofir Natalie Korsia was crowned Miss Universe Israel 2024 in a national competition held on Sunday, September 29 at the Hilton Aventura Miami in Florida. The 23-year-old actress, dancer, and model from Rishon LeZion will now prepare to represent Israel at the Miss Universe 2024 pageant in Mexico this November. This year's event marked the return of Israel to the Miss Universe pageant after a 2-year hiatus. A total of eight contestants competed for the crown. It was organized under the new national director Edgar Saakyan of Edgar Entertainment (USA), in partnership with Blue Ocean Venture Funds. Israel's last participation at Miss Universe was in 2021 with Noa Cochva. The country once won the coveted crown with Rina Mor, Miss Universe 1976. Miss Orb International 2024 is Fernanda Fernández from Costa Rica

Costa Rica's very own Fernanda Fernández was crowned Miss Orb International 2024 on Monday, September 30 in San José, Costa Rica. The 23-year-old fashion model bested 14 other contestants to win the international title. She succeeds Camila Canto from Mexico. Andreina Quintero from Venezuela and Rebecca Drouin from Canada were first and second runners-up, respectively. Xiadani Saucedo from Mexico and Allison Ojeda from Puerto Rico rounded out the Top 5 finalists. The rest of the Top 10 were from Bolivia, Anabel Guzman, Colombia, Maria Camila Medrano, El Salvador, Eva Barrera, Guatemala, Verónica Mejía and USA, Azalia Arredondo. Miss Grand Philippines 2024 is Christine Juliane Opiaza

Christine Juliane Opiaza was crowned Miss Grand Philippines 2024 on Sunday, September 29 at the  Newport Performing Arts Theater in Pasay City, Metro Manila. The 25-year-old host, model and runway coach from Castillejos, Zambales beat 19 other contestants to win the national competition. She succeeds last year's winner Nikki de Moura of Cagayan de Oro and will now represent the Philippines at Miss Grand International 2025 in Thailand this October. Sophia Bianca Santos of Pampanga was named Universal Woman Philippines 2025 and will go to the Universal Woman 2025 pageant. Sheynnis Palacios was crowned Miss Nicaragua 2023 (Miss Universe Nicaragua 2023) on Saturday, August 5 at Centro de Convenciones del Hotel Crowne Plaza in Managua. The 23-year-old communications graduate and television host representing Diriamba bested 9 other competitors to win the national title. She succeeds Norma Huembes Salazar and will now represent Nicaragua at Miss Universe 2023 in El Salvador. Victoria Velasquez Vincent was crowned Miss Universe New Zealand 2024 in a national final on Sunday, September 29 at the Dorothy Winstone Centre in Auckland. The 29-year-old Filipina-Kiwi beauty will represent New Zealand at the Miss Universe 2024 pageant in Mexico City this November.
