71st Miss World: Martinique's Axelle René wins Top Model competition


The 71st Miss World Top Designer and Top Model competition was held last Saturday, March 2 at the Aurika, Mumbai Skycity in Mumbai.

Strutting the runway in black dresses brought from their respective countries, the 112 contestants impressed the judges before the decision for the Top 5 from each continent was announced.

Axelle René of Martinique won the Top Model competition with her remarkable catwalk performance followed by Nursena Say of Türkiye, Lesego Chombo of Botswana, and Sophia Hrivňáková of Slovakia who were declared the winners for Asia and Oceania, Africa, and Europe, respectively.

The rest of the official finalists from each region were:

Asia & Oceania — India (Sini Shetty), Lebanon (Yasmina Zaytoun), Philippines (Gwendolyne Fourniol), and Indonesia (Audrey Vanessa)

Europe — Czech Republic (Krystyna Pyszkova), Scotland (Chelsie Allison), France (Clemence Botino), and Belgium (Kedist Deltour)

Africa — Nigeria (Ada Eme), Togo (Chimène Moladja), South Africa (Claude Mashego), and Ghana (Miriam Xorlasi)

America — Brazil (Leticia Frota), Dominican Republic (María Victoria Bayo), Peru (Lucía Arellano), and Canada (Jaime Vandenberg)

The contestants from the Czech Republic, Ethiopia, India, and the United States bagged the Best Fashion Designer Award for Europe, Africa, Asia & Oceania, and America, respectively.

Martinique has now automatically secured a spot in the Top 40 to be announced during the 71st Miss World final on Saturday, March 9 in Mumbai.
