Former Miss International Canada, Madison Kvaltin, was crowned Miss Universe Canada 2023 in a national competition held on Saturday, August 19 at The Show Theatre at Hard Rock Casino Vancouver. The 25-year-old Northern Ontario-born entrepreneur with a degree in sociology and business from Queen's University will now prepare to represent Canada at Miss Universe 2023 in El Salvador this November. Jessica Bailey was named first runner-up while Melanie Renaud, Kim Hoang Do, and Dominique Doucette were announced as the second, third, and fourth runners-up, respectively. After weeks of preparations and anticipation, the contestants vying for Miss Universe Canada 2023 have arrived in Vancouver, British Columbia for the competition week. Following their arrival, pre-pageant activities kicked off at Holiday Inn Vancouver Airport- Richmond including their registration day and official photoshoots. Then they all glammed up for Monday night's welcome gala dinner hosted by Supercar Martini Circle in a spectacular venue by ASPAC Developments. The final date and venue for the 72nd annual Miss Universe Canada competition, Miss Universe Canada 2023, has been officially announced. Last year's winner and Miss Universe 2022 Top 16 semifinalist Amelia Tu from Vancouver will crown her successor on Saturday, August 19 and at the River Rock Casino and Resort Theatre in Richmond, British Columbia. According to the organizers, this is the reputable venue's first time hosting the national pageant. The presentation show will be held on Thursday, August 17 where over 50 contestants, yet to be revealed, will compete before a live audience and the judges in their swimsuits and evening gowns. Fifteen semifinalists from the judges and five from segment winners will make up the Top 20 who will compete in the traditional categories and question and answer portion of the final show. Chinese-Canadian Amelia Tu triumphed over 50 other contestants to be crowned Miss Universe Canada 2022 in a national competition held on Thursday, May 14 at the Meridian Arts Centre in Toronto. The 20-year-old biology and business student at Universe of California, Berkeley hails from Vancouver, BC. She succeeds Tamara Jemuovic and will represent Canada at the Miss Universe 2022 pageant later this year. Madison Kvaltin was named first runner-up while Yuliya Shcherban finished second runner-up. Canada's representative to the 69th Miss Universe pageant in Florida next month, Nova Stevens, has finally reunited with her family in Ethiopia after 21 years. The 25-year-old professional model and activist was sent to Canada at age 6 to have a better life while her family settled in Ethiopia after fleeing the civil war in South Sudan. "For a parent to send a child away on their own is one of the biggest sacrifices. My parents took a chance and sent me away to Canada for the opportunity to have a better life," Nova wrote on social media.
