Miss Universe Jamaica 2022 is Toshami Calvin

Toshami Calvin was crowned Miss Universe Jamaica 2022 on Saturday, September 3 at the Grand Ball Room of the AC Hotel by Marriot in Kingston. The 26-year-old beauty from St. Thomas is a registered behavior technician. In addition to her national title, she also bagged the Best in Evening Gown and Essence of Style Award. Rachel Silvera and Shanique Singh were the first and second runners-up, respectively. A total of 20 contestants took part in this year's competition. Last year's titleholder Daena Soares relinquished her reign at the end of the glittering event. The new Miss Universe Jamaica will now prepare to represent her beautiful island country at the 71st Miss Universe pageant in the first quarter of 2023. Jamaica has yet to win the Miss Universe pageant. Since its debut at the pageant in 1961, its highest placement so far was first runner-up in 2010 with Yendi Phillips. Miss Universe Jamaica 2022 final competition will take place on Saturday, September 3 at the Grand Ball Room of the AC Hotel by Marriot in Kingston. Last year's titleholder Daena Soares will crown her successor among 20 beauties at the end of the event. Jamaica first joined Miss Universe in 1961 but has yet to win the crown. Its highest placement was in 2010 when Yendi Phillips finished as first runner-up. The next Miss Universe Jamaica will represent the Caribbean island nation at Miss Universe 2022. Miss Universe Jamaica 2021 is Daena Soares

Daena Soares bested nine other finalists to be crowned Miss Universe Jamaica 2021 in a gleaming national competition held last October 31 at the Hotel Riu Montego Bay in St. James. The 22-year-old beauty who hails from Jamaica's breadbasket parish, St. Elizabeth, holds a bachelor's degree in basic medical sciences from the University of the West Indies. She succeeds last year's winner, Miqueal-Symone Williams. Trishanie Weller and Lauren Less were named the first and second runners-up, respectively. The new Miss Universe Jamaica was also awarded Miss Photogenic and Miss Congeniality. She will now prepare to represent her country at the 70th Miss Universe pageant to be held in Eilat, Israel this December. Jamaica has yet to win the Miss Universe pageant.
