Netherlands' Ona Moody to wear stroopwafel-inspired costume for 71st Miss Universe


Miss Nederland 2022 (Miss Universe Netherlands) Ona Moody will be wearing a stroopwafel-inspired national costume for the 71st Miss Universe pageant.

Stroopwafel is a delicious Dutch waffle cookie that is known all over the world for its great taste and is popular as a souvenir or gift from Holland.

The stroopwafel's wafer layers are made from a stiff dough of flour, butter, and caramel filling made from syrup, brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon.

Designed by Pearl Dronkers of Miss Pearl Couture, the costume features a bodysuit with hand-embroidered ornament inspired by the Delft Blue can (box) that contains the stroopwafels.

The headpiece displays stroopwafels served with and placed on a hot drink such as coffee or tea to warm the cookie and soften the syrup.

Ona will be showcasing the national costume at the 71st Miss Universe this January at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.

Miss Universe Japan 2025 is Kaori Hashimoto from Tochigi Prefecture

Kaori Hashimoto was crowned Miss Universe Japan 2025 in a national competition held on Wednesday, July 16 in Shibuya. The 21-year-old business administration student from Tochigi Prefecture beat over 40 other contestants to win the national title. Saki Fujita and Reina Ishii were the first and second runners-up, respectively, while Chiemi Takayama and Naomi Monique Kamidate were the rest of the Top 5 finalists. Kaya Chakrabortty, last year's winner who made the Top 30 at Miss Universe 2024 held in Mexico, crowned her successor at the end of the event. Hinaupoko Devèze from Tahiti was crowned Miss France 2026 on Saturday, December 6 at the Zénith d'Amiens in Amiens, Hauts-de-France. The 23-year-old model bested 29 other contestants to win the prestigious national pageant. She succeeds Angélique Angarni-Filopon from Martinique. Transgender woman Nguyen Huong Giang to represent Vietnam at Miss Universe 2025

Former Miss International Queen winner Nguyen Huong Giang has been officially announced on Wednesday, September 25 as Miss Universe Vietnam 2025. The 33-year-old model, singer and actress from Hanoi made history as the first ever transgender woman to represent Vietnam at Miss Universe. The "land of a thousand lakes" is set to stage the inaugural Miss Face International pageant in the summer of 2026. According to the organizer, Miss Face International will not only highlight the cultures of various countries but will also act as a networking platform for women worldwide. Idil Bilgen was crowned Miss Turkey World 2024 during the Miss Turkey 2024 national final on Wednesday, September 11 at the Lazzoni Hotel in Istanbul. The 24-year-old medical doctor bested 19 other competitors to win the national title. She will prepare to represent Türkiye at the 72nd Miss World whose date and venue have yet to be announced.
