Indonesia to debut at Reina Hispanoamericana pageant

Indonesia is set to debut at Reina Hispanoamericana 2023 as Ivan Gunawan, founder of Yayasan Dunia Mega Bintang, has been officially announced as a license holder. The first-ever Reina Hispanoamericana Indonesia will be chosen among the Top 5 finalists of the upcoming Miss Mega Bintang Indonesia 2023 pageant. Originally called Reina Sudamericana until 2007, Reina Hispanoamericana is a Bolivia-based international beauty pageant organized by Promociones Gloria since 1991. It aims to celebrate the Hispanic heritage, language, and culture. The annual competition started welcoming representatives from beyond South America in 2004. Indonesia will now be the second Asian country to take part. In 2017, the Philippines joined for the first time and managed to bag the crown with Teresita Marquez. Fans have divided opinions on Indonesia joining the pageant. Yayasan Puteri Indonesia was surprised, Miss Universe's license was taken by another organization The Yayasan Puteri Indonesia (YPI) the organization behind the annual Puteri Indonesia pageant revealed in an official press release they were shocked by the news that the Miss Universe Indonesia license has been taken over by PT Capella Swastika Karya. According to the Head of Communication for the Puteri Indonesia Foundation, Mega Angkasa, he was surprised by the statement from another organization claiming they have the license at a press conference on Wednesday, February 8 in Jakarta. The Miss Universe pageant has entered a new era in Indonesia as its national franchise now belongs to a new company. Previously held by Puteri Indonesia for almost two decades, the Miss Universe Indonesia franchise is now under Jakarta-based PT Capella Swastika Karya. Indonesian singer and actress Poppy Capella will serve as its chairwoman with AVUE Chief Executive Officer Eldwen Wang as the national director. They are joined by Safa Attamimi as the chief operating officer and fashion stylist Niel Dimitrij as project director, among others. This surprising turn of events is just one of the many changes in the Miss Universe Organization since ownership went to Thai media mogul Anne Jakrajutatip late last year and expect more surprises to come. Indonesia's Riskyana Hidayat beat over 30 other contestants to be crowned Miss Aura International 2022 on Saturday, September 24 in Antalya, Turkey. The 25-year-old model and entrepreneur succeeded last year's winner from the Philippines, Alexandra Faith Garcia. She is the first Indonesian representative to win the international title. Nanette Indriago of Venezuela was named first runner-up while Yulia Dashkovskaya of Ukraine, Miruna Doldor of Romania, and Carina Proscurnea of Bulgaria were announced the second, third, and fourth runners-up, respectively. Miss Sulawesi Utara, Audrey Vanessa Susilo was crowned Miss Indonesia 2022 on Thursday, September 15 at Studio RCTI+ in Jakarta. The 22-year-old Monash University student representing the North Sulawesi province bested 36 other contestants to win her national title. She was also announced as the winner of the Talent and Social Media fast track. Miss Indonesia 2022: 37 finalists compete for the title on September 15

A total of 37 finalists representing the provinces of Indonesia will compete for Miss Indonesia 2022 next Thursday, September 15 in Jakarta. Due to the expansion of Papua Province, three new provinces are being represented this year - the Papua Selatan (South Papua), Papua Tengah (Central Papua), and Papua Pegunungan (Highland Papua). An official press conference took place on Friday, September 9 at MNC Studios to formally introduce the finalists to the media. This year's pageant will be the 17th edition of Miss Indonesia. No competition was held in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Pricilia Carla Yules, who won the title in 2020, placed in the Top 6 and bagged the Miss World Asia title at the 70th Miss World final last March in Puerto Rico. Nadia Tjoa of Indonesia was crowned Miss Face of Humanity 2022 in a glittering competition held on Saturday, April 2 at the Metro Toronto Convention Center in Toronto, Canada. The 27-year-old old architecture graduate, model, and entrepreneur bested 16 other contestants to win the international pageant. As its global ambassador, she will advocate youth and women empowerment around the world.
