Miss Universe Thailand 2022, themed "New Beginnings" has officially kicked off with a press conference at Siam Paragon in Bangkok on Thursday, June 16 to announce the details of this year's competition. The winner, who will succeed last year's titleholder Anchilee Scott-Kemmis and represent Thailand at Miss Universe 2022, will be awarded the "Power of Resilience" crown by Mouawad and take home 1 million baht, a condominium unit, a car plus other prizes from sponsors. Manita Hang bested 19 other contestants to be crowned Miss Universe Cambodia 2022 in a glittering competition held in Phnom Penh on Wednesday, June 15. The 23-year-old beauty, who holds a degree in accounting and finance, was born to a French father and a Cambodian mother. She succeeds last year's winner Marady Ngin and will now prepare to represent Cambodia at Miss Universe 2022. Sothnisay Heng was named first runner-up while Bonika Heng finished second runner-up. Due to the difficult situation in their country, the Miss Ukraine Universe Committee has decided to appoint Miss Ukraine Universe 2021 first runner-up Viktoria Apanasenko as Miss Ukraine Universe 2022. The 28-year-old professional model and volunteer from Chernihiv, who holds a degree in social work, succeeds last year's titleholder Anna Neplyah. Alessia Rovegno was crowned Miss Peru 2022 (Miss Universe Peru) in a glittering competition that was held on Tuesday, June 14 in Lima. Apart from former Miss Universe Catriona Gray, Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu has also been invited to visit Vietnam for the upcoming Miss Universe Vietnam 2022 pageant. Tashi Choden Chombal was crowned Miss Universe Bhutan 2022 in a national competition held on Saturday, June 4 in Thimphu. The glittering event that aired on Bhutan Broadcasting Service (BBS) coincided with the birth anniversary of the queen of Bhutan, Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck. The Miss Universe Romania organization has released an official statement that they will not send a representative to the 71st Miss Universe (Miss Universe 2022) pageant. "After much deliberation, we regret to inform you that we had to put a pause on this year's edition of Miss Universe Romania," the organization wrote. "We were looking forward to the boot camp week, the grand final, and choosing our 3rd consecutive queen, after Miss Bianca and Miss Carmina. Unfortunately, due to new events that we could not anticipate, our plans have changed," the organization further explains. Miss Universe Romania plans to return to the Miss Universe competition next year. The reigning titleholder is a history student and model from Cluj-Napoca, Carmina Elena Olimpia Coftas.
