Former Miss Malaysia Michelle Yeoh wins Oscars 2023 Best Actress


Malaysian actress and former beauty queen Michelle Yeoh bagged the Best Actress award at Oscars 2023 for her notable performance in the 2022 sci-fi/adventure/comedy film Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the 95th Academy Awards aired on Monday, March 13, and was held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California.

Michelle made history by becoming the first person of Asian descent to win the Academy Award for Best Actress. She also won the same recognition at the Golden Globes for the same film last month.

The 60-year-old played the role of Evelyn Quan Wang, an overwhelmed but optimistic laundromat owner who saved the universe. She beat Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie), Cate Blanchett (Tar), Michelle Williams (The Fabelmans), and Ana de Armas (Blonde).

Before becoming an award-winning international actress, Michelle was crowned Miss Malaysia (Miss World Malaysia) in 1983 and went on to represent her country at the Miss World 1983 pageant which was held at the Royal Albert Hall in London, UK.

She kicked off her showbiz acting career in Hong Kong as Michelle Khan, then rose to fame in the 1990s after appearing in a series of action films. After moving to the US, she appeared in James Bond (Tomorrow Never Dies) in 1997, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in 2000.

Her latest films include Crazy Rich Asians, Avatar: The Way of Water, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and The School for Good and Evil.

"For all the little boys and girls who look like me watching tonight, this is a beacon of hope and possibilities. This is proof that dreams, dream big, and dreams do come true," she said in her speech after receiving her Oscars trophy.

Miss Greater Bridgeport, Shavana Clarke was crowned Miss Connecticut USA 2024 on Sunday, April 14 at Marriott Hartford Windsor Airport in Windsor, Connecticut. The 29-year-old model and mental health advocate will now prepare to represent the state of Connecticut at Miss USA 2024 in California this August. Danika Christopherson, representing The Village, was crowned Miss Oklahoma USA 2024 on Sunday, April 14 at OCCC Performing Arts Center Theater in Oklahoma City Community College. The 23-year-old former Miss Oklahoma Teen USA succeeds last year's winner Liv Walbeck. She will now prepare for the Miss USA 2024 competition to be held in California this summer. Miss Universe Greece 2024 is Christianna Katsieri

Christianna Katsieri has been officially announced as Miss Universe Greece 2024 by the Star & Mr GS Hellas organization. The 22-year-old model has previously held the title Miss GS Hellas 2022 and became Miss Earth Greece 2023. She went on to represent Greece at Miss Earth 2023 in Vietnam last December. Her predecessor Marielia Zaloumi was last year's Star GS Hellas and Miss Universe Greece, who went to Miss Universe 2023 in El Salvador last November. Miss RNB EspaƱa 2024 is Elizabeth Laker from Tenerife

Elizabeth Laker was crowned Miss RNB EspaƱa 2024 (Miss Supranational Spain 2024) on Saturday, April 13 at Teatre Auditori de Salou (TAS). The 25-year-old personal trainer and makeup artist from Arona, Tenerife succeeds last year's winner Lola Wilson. Martina SuĆ”rez of Valencia and Ainara MartĆ­nez of La Rioja were the first and second runners-up, respectively. The contestants from Badajoz, Paula CrĆ­spulo, Ourense, Carolina Barroso, and Pontevedra, Iris MiguĆ©lez, rounded out the Top 6 finalists. Miss Universe Netherlands 2024: Meet the Top 16 finalists

From 60 beauties who participated during the casting day, only 16 will now move on as finalists for Miss Universe Netherlands 2024. The selection event and official announcement of the Top 16 finalists took place on Saturday, April 13 at Studio 21 in Hilversum. Previously held by Monica van Ee of the Miss Nederland organization, the license for Miss Universe Netherlands has been taken over this year by Milou Verhoeks of the Miss Beauty of the Netherlands. Last year's winner under Miss Nederland was Rikkie Valerie KollƩ , the first-ever transgender woman to represent the Netherlands at the Miss Universe pageant.
