Miss Universe Brazil 2023 is Maria Brechane of Rio Grande do Sul

Maria Brechane edged out 26 other competitors to be crowned Miss Universo Brasil 2023 (Miss Universe Brazil 2023) on Saturday, July 8 at Pátio Welucci in São Paulo.

The 19-year-old trilingual model, actress, and journalism student representing Rio Grande do Sul will represent Brazil at the 72nd Miss Universe (Miss Universe 2023) in El Salvador.

She succeeds last year's winner Mia Mamede from Vitória, Espírito Santo.

Bárbara Reis of Mato Grosso and Vitória Brodt of São Paulo were named the first and second runners-up, respectively.

Rounding out the Top 7 finalists were the contestants from Amazonas, Alice Casanova, Goiás, Renata Guerra, Pará, Milena Gomes, and Sergipe, Gabriela Botelho.

The new Miss Universe Brazil became the 16th representative from the state of Rio Grande do Sul to win the coveted national title.

She received the newly unveiled "Iêda" crown inspired by Iêda Maria Vargas (also from Rio Grande do Sul), who achieved her country's first Miss Universe title 60 years ago.
