Nyekachi Douglas joins Miss Universe Nigeria 2023

Former Miss World Nigeria Nyekachi Douglas has officially applied to compete in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2023 pageant.

Her participation was confirmed when her official entry video to the competition was posted on both her and Miss Universe Nigeria Instagram accounts.

"I just want people to be able to say I did it. I gave myself the opportunity to explore this dream whether I succeed at it or not. And I can't think of a better platform to amplify my voice in these pursuits than the Miss Universe platform," she said in the video.

The 25-year-old model, actress, and philanthropist was crowned Miss World Nigeria 2019 and went on to join the 69th Miss World pageant where she placed in the Top 5 and was awarded the Miss World Africa continental title.

Following the international final in London, Nyekachi went viral online for her priceless reaction when Jamaica's Toni-Ann Singh was announced Miss World winner.

This year's Miss Universe Nigeria standalone competition was established as a spin-off from the renowned Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) pageant organized by Silverbird Communications.

The winner, to be crowned this September, will succeed Hannah Iribhogbe and is expected to represent Nigeria at the 72nd Miss Universe (Miss Universe 2023) pageant in El Salvador later this year.
