Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2023 preliminary, award winners announced

The Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2023 pageant held its crucial preliminary competition on Sunday, August 20 at Teatro Tapia in San Juan. Television and radio host, writer, actress, and entrepreneur Nicole Chacón hosted the event that will help determine this year's semifinalists. Thirty contestants sashayed onstage wearing their official swimsuits by Mare Cheia and glittering evening gowns to impress a distinguished panel of judges consisting of professionals from various industries. The judges were hematologist-oncologist Anna Di Marco, former Mr World Puerto Rico Fernando Álvarez Soto, performing arts director Ismanuel Rodríguez, blogger Uka Green, aesthetic doctor Wanda González, and De La Cruz president Carlos Thompson. Presented by L'Oréal Paris, the preliminary event culminated with six contestants taking home the special awards. Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2023: New crown 'Evolución' officially unveiled

After five years, the Miss Universe Puerto Rico organization and Wapa Televisión officially presented a new crown named "Evolución" (Evolution). The new masterpiece was designed by Gabriela Rodríguez and Lido Jewelers, the same creators of the "Renacer" (Renaissance) crown that was worn from 2018 until 2022. With the presence of 31 contestants vying for Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2023, the unveiling ceremony took place on Wednesday, August 2 at the Lido Jewelers venue in the Mall of San Juan. Modernity, simplicity, and elegance describe the design of the new crown for the national pageant. It is made of 18-carat white gold and silver, 10-carat channel-mounted diamonds, aquamarine stones, and a pearl. Following weeks of anticipation, the 33 beautiful women vying for the title of Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2023 have been officially presented on Tuesday, May 16. The special presentation took place at the iconic Casa Alcaldía del Municipio de San Juan (San Juan City Hall) with the presence of the city mayor Miguel Romero who believes the pageant can help boost the tourism and economic development of the island's capital. This year's national competition will have its final night at Centro de Bellas Artes de San Juan on Tuesday, August 24, and will broadcast live from 7 p.m. on Wapa TV and Wapa América. Former Miss Universe Puerto Rico Madison Anderson Berrios was announced on Monday, April 24 the winner of the third season of "La Casa de los Famosos" (The House of Celebrities). The beauty queen turned celebrity placed first runner-up to South Africa's Zozibini Tunzi when she represented Puerto Rico at Miss Universe 2019 in Atlanta, Georgia. Prior to Miss Universe, she was also third runner-up at Miss Grand International 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Madison will now take home a whopping $200,000 in prize money for winning the American Spanish-language version of the reality television franchise Celebrity Big Brother. Mexican actress Patricia Navidad placed second while Mexican actor and model Pepe Gámez placed third. The Nuestra Belleza Puerto Rico 2023 grand coronation night was held on Thursday, April 13 at the Condado Plaza Hilton Hotel in San Juan. Hosted by former titleholder Nicole Marie Colón and actor Eli Cay, the glittering show featured a total of 16 beauties competing for the three coveted crowns at stake. Miss Rio Grande, Amanda Paola Pérez Solís, was crowned Miss International Puerto Rico 2023 while Miss Cataño, Camille Fabery, and Miss Caguas, Cristina Ramos clinched the Miss Supranational Puerto Rico 2023 and Miss Grand Puerto Rico 2023 titles, respectively. They will now prepare to represent Puerto Rico at Miss International 2023 (Japan), Miss Supranational 2023 (Poland), and Miss Grand International 2023 (Vietnam). Miss Universe 1970 Marisol Malaret Contreras from Puerto Rico passed away at the age of 73 on Sunday. The former beauty queen turned television personality became the first Puerto Rican and Caribbean woman to win the Miss Universe pageant on July 11, 1970, at the Miami Beach Auditorium in Miami Beach, Florida. She was only 20 years old, an executive secretary in the Puerto Rico Telephone Company, when she was crowned by her predecessor Gloria Diaz, Miss Universe 1969 from the Philippines. Following her historic victory, she was honored with what was considered until then one of the biggest welcomings ever at San Juan. It was reported that around 50,000 people turned out to her homecoming. Following rounds of auditions, thirty-eight contestants have been pre-selected to take part in the Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2023 competition. This year's pageant will be the 67th edition whose winner will represent the Caribbean island later this year at Miss Universe 2023 in San Salvador, El Salvador. Karla Guilfú Acevedo joins Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2023

The search for Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2023 has begun and one notable aspirant who went to audition is former Miss Supranational Puerto Rico Karla Inelisse Guilfú Acevedo. From Supranational to Universe, Karla hopes to represent Puerto Rico at Miss Universe 2023, and with the strong track record she holds in pageantry, she could be the one. The 24-year-old hails from Patillas and holds a bachelor's degree in psychology. She was named Puerto Rico's representative for Miss Supranational during Nuestra Belleza Puerto Rico 2020 and went on to bag first runner-up at Miss Supranational 2021 in Poland. Prior to her success on the global stage, she also held the title Miss Teen Mundial Puerto Rico 2018 and finished in the Top 12 at the international Miss Teen Mundial pageant held in El Salvador.
