Natasha Joubert was crowned Miss South Africa 2023 during the 65th Miss South Africa pageant held on Sunday, August 13 at the SunBet Arena, Time Square, Pretoria. The 26-year-old marketing management graduate and entrepreneur from Tshwane, Gauteng won in her second attempt for the national title. She was second runner-up at Miss South Africa 2020 and went on to compete in the 69th Miss Universe which was held in Hollywood, Florida. Bryoni Govender, 26, from Kempton Park in Gauteng, and Nande Mabala, 26, from Zwelethemba, Worcester in Cape Town were the first and second runners-up, respectively. Rounding out the Top 5 were Homba Mazaleni and Melissa Nayimuli while Anke Rothmann and Jordan van der Vyver were the rest of the Top 7 finalists. Miss Supranational 2023 first runner-up Pauline Amelinckx was officially crowned the first-ever "The Miss Philippines" on Thursday, August 10. The crowning ceremony took place during the Supra-Duo Homecoming celebration event held for her and Mister Supranational 2023 semifinalist Johannes Rissler at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria. Pauline received her crown and official The Miss Philippines sash from former beauty queen and now Miss Universe Philippines national director Shamcey Supsup-Lee. As the titleholder, the Boholana beauty represents "confidence, intelligence, and positive change in addition to being a beauty queen." Applications are open until August 26 for the first edition of The Miss Philippines, the "newest, most innovative and modern pageant" for females of Filipino heritage, ages 18 to 32 years old, from all corners of the world. The winners are expected to represent the Philippines at the Miss Supranational and Miss Charm pageants.

Miss South Africa unveils new crown 'Mowana' inspired by tree of life

Led by CEO Stephanie Weil, the Miss South Africa organization officially unveiled a new crown called "Mowana" at a ceremony held on Monday, August 7 in Johannesburg. Sponsored by Ursula Pule, creative director of Nungu Diamonds, the beautiful masterpiece was inspired by the "Tree of Life" known as the baobab trees. Present during the unveiling event were Miss South Africa 2023 finalists and newly arrived reigning Miss Universe R'Bonney Gabriel who flew all the way from Bangkok. The baobab is revered just as women, who are cherished as sources of life and positivity, are. Both are symbols of strength and resilience. Meanwhile, the African sunrise was used as a metaphor to symbolize the rise of Miss South Africa at the start of her reign, signifying the beginning of her new life as a queen. Andrea Aguilera touched down in Ecuador on Monday, July 24 for her homecoming since winning the 14th Miss Supranational pageant in Poland. The 22-year-old received a warm welcome from her supporters at the José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport. She then hopped on a red sports car for her victory parade through the streets of Guayaquil. Following her arrival, an official press conference was hosted for her homecoming at Courtyard by Marriott Guayaquil. "I want to say thank you to everyone who sent me words of kindness and support. It's teamwork and you are my team. Without you, I probably would not be standing here today, feeling so happy and excited," she shared. Andrea Aguilera of Ecuador was crowned Miss Supranational 2023 in a glittering event held on Friday, July 13 at the Strzelecki Park Amphitheater in Nowy Sącz, Małopolska, Poland. The 22-international business student bested 64 other competitors to win her country's first Miss Supranational title. She succeeds last year's winner Lalela Mswane of South Africa. Pauline Amelinckx of the Philippines was named first runner-up while Sancler Frantz of Brazil, Emma Rose Collingridge of the United Kingdom, and Ngan Dang Thanh of Vietnam were announced as the second, third, and fourth runners-up, respectively. The continental queens were from Zimbabwe, Sakhile Dube, India, Pragnya Ayyagari, Peru, Valeria Flórez, Curacao, Andreina Pereira, and Gibraltar, Michelle Lopez Desoisa. No stranger to pageantry, the new Miss Supranational previously held the title of Miss Grand Ecuador and went on to participate in Miss Grand International 2021 in Bangkok, Thailand where she placed first runner-up.
