Former Miss Universe Argentina Mariana Valera and fellow beauty queen from Puerto Rico, Fabiola Valentín, revealed they had secretly tied the knot after keeping their relationship private for a long time. Their intimate wedding ceremony took place last Friday, October 28 in San Juan, Puerto Rico where same-sex marriage has been legal since 2015. Back in 2019, they both tried to join Miss Universe but while Mariana won her national title and went on to compete in the prestigious pageant in Atlanta, Georgia, Fabiola was not lucky enough to take home the Miss Universe Puerto Rico title as she only placed in the Top 3. This year's edition introduced a total of 28 contestants representing various towns, municipalities, and cities of Puerto Rico. Miss Fajardo, Ashley Ann Cariño, was crowned Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2022 in a glittering competition that took place on Thursday, August 11 at the Centro de Bellas Artes Luis A. Ferré, also known as Bellas Artes de Santurce in San Juan. The 27-year-old beauty succeeds last year's winner Michelle Colón of Loíza and will represent Puerto Rico at the 71st Miss Universe pageant (Miss Universe 2022) later this year. Leonela González De Jesús of Dorado and Camille Fabery Diana of Cataño were named the first and second runners-up, respectively. The representatives of Aguadilla,  Graciela Berrios and Toa Alta, Valeria Pagán Masini, completed the Top 5 finalists. The preliminary competition of Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2022 took place on Sunday, August 7 from the historic Teatro Tapia (Tapia Theater) Theater in San Juan. Hosted by "NotiCentro" journalist Jorge Gelpí Pagán and "Viva la tarde" presenter Nicole Chacón, with musical numbers from Lenny Tavárez and  Christian Daniel, the colorful event featured 28 contestants competing in their preliminary swimsuits and evening gowns. Toa Baja representative Elena Rivera was crowned Miss Mundo Puerto Rico 2022 (Miss World Puerto Rico 2022) during the national competition held on Thursday, June 30 at Centro de Bellas Artes de Caguas. Amanda Pérez Solis of Río Grande and Andrea Carolina Rivera of Lares were the first and second runners-up, respectively. A total of 30 contestants competed for the coveted national title and the right to represent Puerto Rico at the 71st Miss World pageant. Last year's titleholder Aryam Díaz Rosado crowned her successor at the end of the event. The new Miss World Puerto Rico is an 18-year-old fashion model and marketing student. The Nuestra Belleza Puerto Rico 2022 final competition was held on Sunday, June 5 at Teatro Alejandro Tapia y Rivera in San Juan. San Sebastian's Paola González Torres, a 23-year-old chemistry student, was named Miss International Puerto Rico 2022. Following a "frivolous and malicious lawsuit" filed against her and her Reignite Puerto Rico foundation, Miss World 2016 Stephanie Del Valle Diaz took to social media to release an official statement. Last year, the Puerto Rican beauty was appointed by Miss World CEO Julia Morley to lead the negotiations for the hosting of the 70th Miss World pageant in Puerto Rico, whose aim was to generate exposure to the island, attract events of economic impact and help major social causes. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 concerns, the final show was canceled last December and rescheduled to be held this March with only the Top 40 semi-finalists are expected to return to compete for the coveted title. The 20-year-old architecture student at the University of Puerto Rico - Río Piedras bested 20 other contestants to win her beauty title. She succeeds last year's winner, Cristina Mariel, and will now prepare to represent Puerto Rico at the Miss Earth 2022 pageant later this year. Miss World Organization will announce today the official Top 40 contestants who will return to compete at the 70th Miss World final in Puerto Rico this March.
